Bhutan Tsechu

2014 Recommended Festival Itineraries

Tsechus (festivals) are one of the best ways to experience the ancient living culture of Bhutan. A Tsechu is a Buddhist festival in honour of Buddhist Saint Padmasambhava, popularly known as ‘Guru Rimpoche’, the saint who was responsible for introducing Buddhism to Bhutan. The Tsechu draws hundreds of Bhutanese people in a spirit of reverence, blessing, festivity and celebration. The Tsechu comes to life with colour, music, dance and drama as villagers and townspeople gather to witness the masked dances, sword dances and other sacred rituals.

We can customise tours to coincide with any of the numerous festivals that take place in Bhutan throughout the year, and can easily combine them with a range of activities. Paro Tsechu is one of the most popular festivals in Bhutan. A highlight of the Paro Tsechu is the unfurling of the silk Thangka – so large it covers the face of an entire building and is considered one of the most sacred blessings in the whole of Bhutan.

Our Paro Festival and Hiker package is designed to provide visitors with an experience of these religious Buddhist festivals combined with an abundance of hiking options in the countryside.

Our Paro Festival 2014 & Central Bhutan is ideal for those wishing to join in the colourful celebration of Bhutanese culture and faith at a Tsechu, whilst also exploring the many highlights of Bhutan’s western and central valleys including Thimphu, Punakha, Trongsa and Bhutan’s spritual heartland, Bumthang.

Our Nimalung and Kurjey Festivals 2014 recommended itinerary offers a combination of two festivals in the beautiful and spiritual heartland of Bhutan, the Bumthang Valley.  Scheduled in June, there is also the added value of a low season discount on tariff during this period.  Another additional advantage is that other important sites offered in standard tours are also incorporated into this tour – taking advantage of two festivals and more than the standard tour. The Nimalung Kurjey tour is ideal for those interested in getting the most of festivals, culture, nature and travel.

If you would like us to customise a tour coinciding with a festival, please contact us with your preferred travel dates and with will tailor-design a tour to suit. You can also find out more about festival tours here.
