Jomolhari Mountain Festival

Jigrne Dorji National Park under the Department of Forest and Park Services is organizing the first Jomolhari Mountain Festival on 23rd and 24th October 2013 at Soe Dangochong. The festival is just one part of a larger effort to promote conservation the rare Snow Leopard. Visitors to the festival will be able to sample local cuisine, purchase locally made handicrafts like authentic yak fur robes and enjoy the traditional songs and dances of the region.

New Tour – Haa Valley Jaunt

“Haa Valley” remains one of the least visited areas in the country and retains the air of an unspoiled, primeval forest. This valley only opened to foreigners in 2002 due to its proximity to the border with Sikkim and Tibet. This unspoilt valley harks back to a simpler, more traditional time, and its wooded hills give us an ideal setting for hiking and mountain biking. There are several pleasant walking trails in Haa and biking on the virtually traffic free valley to visit local areas of interest and village homes is an enjoyable way to spend the day.

Drukair

Drukair flights form Singapore

Bhutan’s national airline Drukair has begun direct flights to and from Singapore.  In addition to its flights Bangkok, Delhi, Kolkata, Dhaka and Kathmandu, Drukair now has a weekly flight from Paro to Singapore on Wednesdays and Saturdays and from Singapore to Paro on Thursdays and Sundays. Flights from Singapore to Bhutan take approximately 5 hours with a 45-minute refuelling stopover in Kolkata. Please email us for more details.

Simply Bhutan

Visit ‘Simply Bhutan’ – A Village in the City

‘Simply Bhutan’ is a living muesum set in the heart of Bhutan’s thriving capital, Thmiphu. Inaugurated in late August 2012, it is a depiction of Bhutan’s ancient cultural heritage and the living ways of Bhutanese people in olden days.

Simply Bhutan has an altar, a Zhabdrung museum, photo studio where visitors can be photographed in the traditional attire of the Merak and Sakteng region, and a traditional Bhutanese kitchen with a cooking stove made of mud and stone. Demonstration stalls of textiles and handmade products and cafe offering butter tea Suja, snacks and a souvenir shop are among others.

Uma Punakha

Uma Punakha Now Open

The 11-room Uma by COMO Punakha was launched in mid September 2012, on a hillside in the lush Punakha Valley with incredible bird’s-eye views across bright green terraced fields and the bending Mo Chu river. These clear blue glacial waters flow downstream towards Punakha Dzong, one of the most important and beautiful religious temples in Bhutan, home to the head Abbott of Bhutan, Je Khempo and 1,000 monks.
