On Wednesday 22nd July 2009, Bhutan will be one of the few countries to experience a total eclipse of the Sun. The Moon’s umbral shadow will begin in India before crossing through Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar and China. At approximately 0600hrs, as the moon begins to creep over the sun, the sky will turn to a shade of deep red then dark purple, cobolt grey and eventually complete darkness will prevail at approximately 06.58am for approximately 2.52 minutes. We have two suggested itineraries during which you will be able to witness this spectacular natural phenomenon. Our 7 day program views the eclipse from Phajoding, a wonderful day trek from Bhutan's capital city of Thimphu, whilst our 9 day program views it in Trongsa, the ancestral home of Bhutan's ruling dynasty. There will not be a longer total solar eclipse until 13 June 2132, so don't miss this opportunity!
